CREATOR ECONOMY
By our African Marketing Confederation News Team | 2026
The continent’s creators are building communities, shaping culture and developing businesses of their own, organisers say.

As brands increasingly adopt social-first strategies, creators are playing a more significant role in how they communicate, build relevance and connect with audiences. Creator partnerships now extend beyond content for social feeds, influencing brand storytelling, sponsorship, entertainment, commerce and wider integrated marketing campaigns.
Against this backdrop, the Africa Creator Festival returns for its fourth edition this September, bringing together the people and organisations helping to shape Africa’s growing creator/influencer economy.
The 2026 programme comprises two distinct events: MatchDay, a dedicated Sports Summit on Thursday, 3 September, and the flagship Africa Creator Festival on Saturday, 5 September.
Over its first three editions, the festival has welcomed more than 800 influencers and creators and over 20 participating brands, supported by a programme of masterclasses, panel discussions and direct opportunities for creators and brands to connect.
“The creator economy is becoming an increasingly important part of the broader marketing and business landscape,” says festival founder Jolene Roelofse.
“Creators are no longer simply producing content for brands. They are building communities, shaping culture and developing businesses of their own. The Africa Creator Festival brings this ecosystem together to share knowledge, create meaningful connections and catalyse the partnerships and opportunities that will support its continued growth.”
Sport, fandom and the creator economy
The conversation around sport has moved beyond the broadcast screen and onto the feed. MatchDay brings together sporting bodies, athletes, agents, brands and creators to examine how digital platforms are changing the way African sport is experienced, shared and commercialised.
The programme explores the growth of women’s sport, the athlete as creator, supporters as co-creators and the changing nature of sponsorship. It considers how athlete-led media, fan-driven storytelling and creator partnerships can strengthen supporter engagement, extend conversations beyond match day and create new commercial opportunities.
Africa Creator Festival 2026
On Saturday, 5 September, the flagship Africa Creator Festival will focus on what it takes to turn creative influence into a sustainable business. Bringing creators together with brands, agencies, platforms and industry leaders, the programme will provide practical insight into building commercial partnerships, developing new revenue opportunities and creating long-term value.
Under the theme “Going Pro”, discussions will explore how creators can turn a following into a business, what marketers need from creator partnerships and how brands and creators can find common ground between commercial objectives and creative freedom. The programme will also examine the role of culture, community and music in shaping content and audience connection.
“For brands, agencies and platforms, the festival provides direct insight into the creators and communities shaping digital culture and consumer behaviour. It also creates opportunities to develop more relevant, effective and sustainable creator partnerships as creator-led work becomes increasingly integrated into broader marketing communications,” the organisers say.
