All on board the military helicopter died when it crashed in the southern Ashanti region en route from the capital of Accra to Obuasi, a mining town in southern Ghana. The deceased are senior government officials, two government ministers, and military personnel.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) statement is signed by its National President, Michael Abbiw, and reads as follows:

“The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) extends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, especially their spouses and children, as well as to the President of the Republic, the Government of Ghana, and the Ghana Armed Forces, who are now enduring unimaginable grief and sorrow. We pray for God’s divine strength and comfort to surround them during this profoundly difficult time.

The fallen were heroic servants of the nation, engaged in a critical mission to combat illegal small-scale mining, when the tragic incident occurred. Among them were Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Alhaji Mohammad Muniru Limuna, Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

Also lost were three gallant members of the Ghana Armed Forces: Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo. Even in this moment of national mourning, we must celebrate their virtues and devotion to the ideals of integrity, service, and the progress of Ghana.

CIMG takes this opportunity to commend the efforts of security personnel, emergency responders, and everyone who worked diligently to recover the remains of the deceased and ensure their dignified conveyance to the morgue. Their commitment to duty, even in the face of overwhelming emotion, is deeply appreciated.

We also join the call for journalists across media platforms, both traditional and digital, to exercise ethical judgment, sensitivity, and circumspection in their coverage. Let us honour the memory of the departed by treating this tragedy with dignity and respect.

As we grieve, we also reflect on the mission they were undertaking, advancing responsible mining and environmental stewardship. In their honour, CIMG reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote safety, transparency, and sustainability in public policy and national development.

We express our heartfelt solidarity with the people of Ghana during this difficult time and stand ready to contribute our expertise in integrated marketing communications to support behavioural change initiatives.

Let us honour their lives and missions by inspiring collective action and national pride. May this moment of grief also serve as a call to build a safer, more united, and resilient Ghana. May we find strength in one another and move forward with purpose, continuing the work they began. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”

The African Marketing Confederations joins with the CIMG in expressing its condolences to the families of the deceased and to the nation of Ghana.
