Malawi marketers gather to discuss strategies for creating excellence

Lineup of local and international speakers will address delegates on the theme ‘From Surviving to Thriving: Scaling Towards Excellence’.

The annual conference of the Institute of Marketing in Malawi gets underway on Wednesday (26 October) at the Sunbird Livingstonia Beach hotel on the Salima shores of Lake Malawi. It continues until 29 October.

The event follows on the heels of the African Marketing Confederation’s Inaugural Marketing Conference 2022, which concluded on 22 October at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Malawi’s marketing body is a member of the AMC.

‘From Surviving to Thriving: Scaling Towards Excellence’ is the theme of this year’s Malawi conference. A strong lineup of local and international speakers will address delegates, and the conference includes the Madolo 2022 Marketing Excellence Awards.

In the star-studded speaker lineup:

  • Edith Jaya, Group CEO of Old Mutual in Malawi. She will speak on ‘Building a Financially Secure Future’.
  • Helen McIntee, co-founder and President of the African Marketing Confederation, on the topic ‘The Marketing Agenda in Africa: Effective Marketing for Continental Transformation’.
  • Levie Nkunika, Head of Marketing and Communication at FDH Financial Holdings Limited. He will address delegates on ‘Excelling Through Responsible Leadership’.
  • Lekani Katandula, Managing Director of Illovo Malawi Plc. His topic is ‘Crunching the Numbers: The Role of Marketing in Building Financially Viable Enterprises’.
  • Dumisani Lingani Ncube, Radical Entrepreneur at DNL Empire, on the subject ‘Thriving Beyond Your Imagination; A Personal Account’.
  • Gertrude Mateyo, CEO of Precious Medical Insurance. She will speak on ‘The Productivity Box: Mental Health and Work Success’.
  • Paul Bailey, Director of Strategy at Halo. He will address delegates on ‘Commercial Creativity: Much More Than Advertising’.
  • Ndela Sichizya, Marketing and Communications Manager for Absa Bank Zambia Plc. His topic is ‘Creating Effective Brand Strategies that Enhance Customer Value’.

The hosts for the conference are Hillary Ngwira and Stella Gadi, while the Marketing Excellence Awards hosts are Alfred Kanjere and Chawa Mphande.

    Dr. Kariisa pursued PhD research in Computer Security and Identity Management at Security of Systems Group, Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands. As a dynamic educator, he has shared his expertise as a lecturer of e-Government and Information Security at both Makerere University and Radboud University.

    Dr Kin did his PhD research in Computer Security and Identity Management at Security of Systems Group, Radbond University in Nigmegen, Netherlands. He previously served as a lecturer of e-Government and Information Security at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda and Radbond University in Netherlands.

    Dr Kin did his postgraduate courses in Strategic Business Management, Strategic Leadership Communication and Strategies for Leading Successful Change Initiatives at Harvard University, Boston USA.

    • Lecturer of e-Government and Information Security to graduate students at Makerere University, Kampala and Radbond University in the Netherlands
    • Director of Eco Bank Uganda Limited, one of the largest banks in Africa
    • Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters, an umbrella industry association for all Television, Radio and online broadcasters in Uganda.
    • Chairman of Board of Directors of Nile Hotel International, that owns the leading hotel in Uganda, Kampala Serena Hotel.
    • Chairman of Board of Directors of Soliton Telmec Uganda, the leading telecom company in Optic fibre business managing over 80% of optic fibre in Uganda.
