The Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM), a founder member of the African Marketing Confederation, kicks off its 28th Annual Marketing Conference today (Wednesday, 7 May) at the Avani Victoria Falls Resort in Livingstone.

For this year’s event, ZIM has chosen the theme ‘Resilience and Growth Through Sustainable Marketing’. The conference runs until Friday, 9 May and activities include the Marketing Excellence Awards for 2024.
The conference boasts a strong and varied speaker lineup, who will present on topics relevant to the theme.
African sustainability leader
Among the speakers is Nachilala Nkombo, is a multi-award-winning African sustainability leader with over 20 years of experience. She is a Co-Founder of Women Leaders for Climate Action.
She also serves as the Country Director of Bridges to Prosperity (Zambia) and Board Chairperson of Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company.
Nkombo has successfully championed environmentally sustainable programmes and pioneered private sector-led climate finance innovations such as green bonds and gender bonds. As Country Director of Bridges to Prosperity Zambia, her focus is on building climate resilience in rural communities at scale by promoting sustainable transport infrastructure solutions to reconnect isolated populations.
Key figure in strategic communications
Also taking the podium is Muntanga Sibalwa, a communication specialist with over two decades of experience spanning the energy industry, civil society and football administration. She currently serves as Senior Manager – Corporate Affairs at ZESCO Limited, where she oversees key functions including public relations, marketing, stakeholder engagement, protocol, and sustainability initiatives.
Muntanga has been a key figure in strategic communications. Throughout her tenure at ZESCO, she has played a pivotal role in shaping and executing communication strategies, including during national challenges such as the 2024 drought-induced power crisis.
As a leading member of the crisis response team, she oversees the development of strategies for timely updates, stakeholder engagement, media partnerships, and community outreach. All are essential in maintaining public trust and safeguarding the utility’s brand.
Expanded market presence locally and globally
Also sharing his extensive experience with conference delegates is Joo T. Chunga. He is a consultative, entrepreneurial and result-driven business executive with exceptional local and international strategic business experience in manufacturing and energy, amongst other sectors.
Chunga is currently working as Chief Executive Officer for two companies within the Savenda Group of Companies, namely Savenda Electronics Limited and Savenda Electric Company limited.
Under his leadership, the companies have achieved significant growth and expanded their market presence locally and globally. He was honoured with Savenda Group CEO of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024.
