Delegates from across Africa and further afield gather in Kenya to discuss ‘Brand Resilience Amidst Economic Uncertainty’.
The much-anticipated AMC Marketing Forum gets underway at the beautiful Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa today (Wednesday, 25 September).

It brings together marketing professionals from across Africa – including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Mozambique and Botswana. They are being joined by global colleagues from the likes of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Philip Kotler, marketing educator and author widely known as the ‘Father of Modern Marketing’, is scheduled to give a virtual welcome address to delegates and speakers from his home in the United States.
Now aged 93, Kotler – who is still co-authoring marketing books – will join the gathering virtually to kick off proceedings. A renowned practitioner and theoretician, he has written more than 80 books and has had a huge impact on the development of marketing worldwide.
The forum runs until 27 September under the theme ‘Brand Resilience Amidst Economic Uncertainty’. It offers detailed explorations into various brand-resilience strategies aimed at providing delegates with the knowledge and confidence to successfully spearhead their marketing efforts across the continent.
Hermawan Kartajaya, a long-time collaborator with Kotler on many books and projects, is delivering the keynote address. He is speaking on the topic ‘Reimagining Operational Excellence – Inspirations from Asia’, which is based on an upcoming book he is co-authoring.
Kartajaya is the founder of the Asia Marketing Federation and co-founder of the World Marketing Forum.
Other speakers include Selamekristos Belay and Professor Emmanuel Chao.
Belay is the Africa Nutrition Platform Director at Unilever and leads product development and advertising campaigns across the continent for the Nutrition category. He is set to explore the brands that manage to thrive during economic uncertainty and shed light on the marketing strategies they implemented.
Prof Chao is the Director of the Tanzania Marketing Association and an associate professor at Mzumbe University, Tanzania. As a leader in the African marketing industry, he has impacted hundreds of marketing professionals and pioneered the development of professional marketing in Tanzania through the Marketing Awards events which recognise excellence in the field. He will be speaking on f evolving strategic planning to conscious implementation.
