Well-known digital marketer will assist the agency with its expansion strategy in Africa and the European Union.
South African-based Flume Digital Marketing has announced that Mike Stopforth has joined its leadership team, effective this month.
This appointment follows a landmark 2023 for the company, which won several new clients, among them Toyota and Absa Bank. Flume also expanded its international footprint with the opening of a new office in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Stopforth’s extensive digital marketing experience includes founding Cerebra, the social media agency that was later acquired by multinational communications and advertising firm, WPP.
He subsequently helped to establish Beyond Binary, a digital leadership academy, and 48 Hours, a specialist crisis communication agency.
“I’m excited about bringing my experience in, and passion for, nurturing digital talent, developing digital products and offerings, strategic consulting, digital transformation and more to the Flume team,” Stopforth says in a LinkedIn post.
A bumper year for the agency
“Flume had a bumper year in 2023, adding several massive brands to their already impressive client list and launching their EU offering with an Amsterdam office, and I can’t wait to get involved in both.”
Beyond Binary will form the foundation of Flume’s new Academy offering, while 48 Hours will bolster its social media content, community management and crisis management services.
In its own LinkedIn post, Flume says: “A distinguished figure in the African digital marketing arena, Mike joins us as Managing Director and has a wealth of experience and knowledge about what it takes to become the best in digital marketing.”
Jacques Du Bruyn, co-CEO of Flume, adds that Stopforth’s appointment will assist Flume in its ambition to be Africa’s leading independent agency group.
