A memorandum of understanding between the marketing and IT bodies was signed on Friday, 24 January 2025 in Blantyre. It aims to empower members of both institutions, and the public, by addressing critical topics in ICT and marketing.
“The partnership will leverage each organisation’s strengths in order to deliver high-quality and impactful programmes that foster professional growth and innovation. The MOU is valid for three years,” IMM Malawi says in a press release.
This partnership aligns with the nation’s development blueprint, ‘Malawi Vision 2063’, under enabler number five: Human Capital Development. This framework calls for investment in science, technology and development, and education and skills development as key enablers of the country’s future progress.
Partnership will create valuable opportunities for members
“We believe this partnership will create valuable opportunities for our members to exchange and acquire crucial IT and marketing skills,” states George Damson, President of IMM Malawi.
“In the age we live in, technology and marketing are interwoven, and collaboration is the only way to achieve great success.
“Highly trained marketing professionals will be pivotal in supporting both government and private sector efforts to achieve digitisation and advance the national development agenda.
“All practicing and student marketers are encouraged to register their official affiliation with IMM to take full advantage of the benefits offered through the IMM-ICTAM partnership over the next three years.”
Marketing and IT are increasingly being viewed as interwoven and complementary skill sets. For example, the African Marketing Confederation (AMC) and Technology Information Confederation Africa (Ticon Africa) have for several years held their annual conferences in parallel, with certain key sessions and activities being attended by both sets of delegates.
The Institute of Marketing in Malawi is a founder member of the AMC.
