INDUSTRY AWARDS
By our News Team | 2023
In a world increasingly driven by narratives, the art of storytelling continues to command immense power and influence, organisers believe.
The annual PRISM Awards, which recognise African excellence in public relations and communications, has announced that an unprecedented number of entries – 454 in total, with 380 meeting the stringent qualifying criteria – have been received for 2023.
There has been a steady increase in participation over the past five years, but organisers say the volume and quality of entries this year have exceeded expectations and all previous PRISM records.
“The overwhelming response to this year’s call for entries is a testament to the enduring vibrancy and resilience of our industry. In a world increasingly driven by narratives, the art of storytelling continues to command immense power and influence,” notes Landiwe Manana, Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) General Manager and the PRISM Awards Chairperson.

Acknowledgement of the role played by strategic communications
Manana believes the enthusiasm around the awards reaffirms the vibrant growth in the industry and the society-wide acknowledgement of the crucial role played by strategic communications professionals in a rapidly digitising world.
Bradly Howland, CEO of Alkemi Collective (formerly HWB Communications) and member of the awards Organising Committee, says the campaigns submitted are a reflection of the continuing evolution of the industry, demonstrating an adeptness at weaving narratives that are not just engaging but also strategically aligned.
Howland adds that the awards present a unique opportunity to recognise and celebrate this dynamism, shining a spotlight on practitioners and agencies who are pushing the boundaries and setting new standards of excellence in the PR and communications field.
“We eagerly anticipate unveiling the compelling narratives of their accomplishments and showcasing the proud work of our PR community. Their stories underscore the transformative power of PR and communications, and we’re thrilled to give them the spotlight they deserve,” Manana concludes.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, 28 July in Johannesburg.
